Reiki as a complementary healing therapy was founded in Japan in the early part of the 20 Century by Mikao Usui.
The name Reiki originates from the Japanese words ‘Rei’ meaning universal and ‘Ki’ meaning energy. This universal energy is channelled through the practitioner to the client to balance their physical, emotional and spiritual energy.
Reiki is a gentle and effective system of healing which restores the body’s energy balance and activates the body’s own natural ability to heal itself. As a healing system Reiki is safe and non-invasive, it restores physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, and can benefit everyone, including our equine and animal friends.
As well as existing conditions, Reiki can also be very useful in a preventative capacity in helping to maintain physical, mental and emotional balance, or just as a generally pick me up.
Reiki has grown in popularity over the past few years and is practiced by many holistic practitioners. It has become widely recognised by conventional doctors and consultants, resulting in some hospitals allowing Reiki practitioners to work alongside doctors to help patients.
